1. Eligibility requirements

To become a LIC agent, there are some eligibility criteria which you should qualify on to apply for agency. These include the following –

  • You should be aged at least 18 years and above
  • You should be at least 10th pass if you live in a rural area. If you live in an urban area you should be at least 12th pass

2. Process of becoming an LIC agent

  • You should contact the branch manager or the development officer of LIC with your proposal to become an agent
  • The manager or officer of LIC would conduct an interview to assess whether you are fit to act as an agent of the company
  • If you are fit for agency, you would have to register for the IRDAI exam
  • After registration, you would be sent to LIC’s divisional office or training centre where you would have to undergo an IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) prescribed training for 25 hours
  • After the training is completed, you would have to appear for an examination conducted by the IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) .
  • You would have to pass the examination with at least 40% marks.
  • Once you clear the examination, you would be given an Appointment Letter and a license to work as a LIC agent

Once you get the license, you become a certified LIC agent who can sell life insurance plans offered by LIC
